Welcome to my Sea Point Atlantic Seaboard Photo Gallery!
Seapoint is a cosmopolitan hub of energy and activity by day, and enjoys a bustling nightlife, making it one of Cape Town's most vibrant areas. As recently as the 1960's Sea Point enjoyed a status as the place to be seen in Cape Town, once boasting the highest concentration of restaurants per square meter globally. Sadly the rise of the V&A Waterfront was also the end of Seapoint's real heyday. As the top restaurants moved one by one to the grassier pastures, so too did the patrons who used to frequent the area. By the 1990s Sea Point had become a hotbed of crime.
Thanks to a number of factors, including the City Improvement District or Cape Town CID, a government group tasked with urban upliftment in the CBD areas, Sea Point is seeing a remarkable turnaround.
Another factor is the property boom which has gripped Cape Town for the last 4 years. Seafront property, of which Seapoint has some of the finest, is at a premium, and is once again attracting the type of people and money for which this area became famous. It will be a huge triumph to see Sea Point transform to its former glory. Here's hoping..
From the V&A Waterfront, which is on the foreshore of the CBD, and moving towards Camps Bay, you get Green Point, Moulle Point, Sea Point, Fresnae and finally Bantry Bay. Next is Clifton and then Camps Bay.
Favourite activities include rollerblading on the promenade, clubbing in Greenpoint, shopping at De Waterkant, and of course, eating out in Sea Point. I'll try to cover each of these in this gallery over time.
Pictured here is a Cape Town Explorer "topless bus", which is a common site throughout season in Cape Town. This is the best way to see the city, especially with a tour group or friends. Usually copious amounts of alcohol are consumed while taking a leisurely tour of Cape Town, Atlantic Seaboard, or the Entire Peninsula, depending on the endurance of the passengers! - I'll get a shot of a full bus when season hits.. for now, Cape Town is sleeping..
